Deeniyat means the knowledge of the deen, and that knowledge begins with the Book of Allah. This school exists so that anyone who wishes to learn the Qur'an can learn it well, from a qualified teacher — a child meeting the alphabet for the first time, a parent who never had the chance, or someone returning after many years.
Classes are live and personal, and lessons are explained in Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi or English, so that language is never what stands between a student and the Qur'an.

Mohammad Shafi Mir
Mohammad Shafi Mir has been teaching for more than twenty-five years. He studied Arabic at the University of Kashmir, where he was awarded the gold medal for his MA, and he also holds a Fazil in Islamic Studies, an MA in Urdu and a B.Ed.
In his classes, students read aloud and he listens — correcting each letter until it is right, in the way the Qur'an has always been passed on, from teacher to student.

What is Deeniyat Online School?
Deeniyat Online School is a small online school from Kashmir, India, where Mohammad Shafi Mir teaches the Qur'an, Tajweed and Qur'anic Arabic in live classes. It offers three courses — Nazirah & Tajweed, Daura-e-Qur'an and Qur'anic Arabic — for children and adults, taught in Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi or English.
Is the first class free?
Yes. The first class is free of charge. It is a chance to meet the teacher, read together, and find the right place to begin. You can arrange it on WhatsApp or by phone.
Which languages are the lessons taught in?
Lessons are explained in Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi or English, so each student can learn in the language they understand best. The Qur'an itself is, of course, read in Arabic.
Which course should I begin with?
If you cannot yet read the Arabic letters, begin with Nazirah & Tajweed. If you can read and wish to complete the Qur'an with a teacher, Daura-e-Qur'an is the next step. If you read already and wish to understand what you recite, choose Qur'anic Arabic. The first class will confirm the right place to start.
From what age can a child begin?
Most children are ready at around five years old, once they can sit attentively for a short lesson. There is no upper age limit — children, teenagers and adults each learn with others at a similar stage.
Are there separate classes for women and girls?
Yes. Women and girls learn in their own separate classes, from home.
Can students outside India join?
Yes. Classes are online, and students may join from anywhere. Tell us your country and time zone, and we will suggest a suitable time.
